Olivier Desbarres – Learn about my Career
Olivier Desbarres Professional Experience
I worked for 15 years for two major investment banks. In my last role in Singapore as Director and Head of Asia-Pacific FX Strategy, my primary responsibility was devising Asia-Pacific FX strategies, trade recommendations and regional views.
My audience included the largest hedge funds, non-leveraged real money funds and asset managers and corporates across the world.
My team was the focal point for G10 Research during Asian trading hours and conducted its own G10 macro analysis. More broadly, one of my roles was to sell the FX and Global Research franchise to Sales and clients, both in Asia and our other key centres. My team was highly ranked by a number of institutions and polls.
I participated regularly in high-profile events and presentations and I was a guest host on CNBC TV. I was also a regular participant on CNBC, CNBC TV 18, Bloomberg, Reuters TV, Channel News Asia and the BBC and was frequently quoted in the written press, including the Financial Times.
Prior to that in London I was the macro-economist, rate and FX strategist for Emerging Europe (including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey), Africa (including Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and South Africa) and Middle East (including Saudi Arabia and Israel). My role also included coverage of the G10 currencies during London trading hours. I wrote extensively on EU and eurozone membership, once again a very hot topic, and the UK interest rate market.
